Differential expression of oligomeric forms of Aβ in the hippocampus and cerebral microvasculature of Aldh2 ^-/- mice. Immunoblot analysis of hippocampal homogenates (upper panel, 30 μg protein) and cerebral microvessel homogenates (lower panel, 30 μg protein) from 12 month old wildtype or Aldh2 ^-/- mice. Samples were added to Laemmli buffer containing 6 M urea, incubated at room temperature for 30 minutes and then resolved on a 15% SDS-PAGE gel. Note the increased expression of APP in the vasculature of Aldh2 ^-/- mice in contrast to the equal expression of APP in the hippocampus.
