Circled areas indicate neurons and neurite overlap, and asterisks indicate neurons with the vacuolation typical of apoptosis. (d–f) Confocal images were taken on day 3 stained for live cells with Calcein-AM (green) and ethidium homodimer (red) for dead cells. (g) Quantification of live/dead cells by counting all cells positive for Calcein-AM or ethidium homodimer staining within at least three given areas of at least four replicate dishes.
