A, upper panel, intrahippocampal injection paradigm for the experimental or control virus at the 8-month animal age, with all animals killed at 11.5 months of age. XdU (CldU or IdU) injections 6 weeks later were used for survival and differentiation studies, while the other XdU was injected 14 weeks post-injection for the proliferation study.
