Mitochondrial AKT/complex V pathway regulated neuronal metabolic defects and apoptosis. AKT activator VPA alleviated metabolic defects, cyt c and AIF release in mitochondria purified from injured neurons or wild type mice (A1 and B1). Preincubation 30 min with AKT specific inhibitor API-2 counteracted the VPA induced cyt c and AIF release and a concentration-dependent effect was induced by 2.0 and 4.0 mM VPA (A2, A3, B2 and B3). Tom20 is a mitochondrial protein. Data were expressed as mean ± SE. (#p < 0.05 versus vehicle, ##p < 0.01 versus vehicle)
