A schematic showing the temporal segregation and potential involvement of different pathways among three adverse effects of Aβ oligomers: mitochondrial transport impairment, fragmentation, and cell death. All three effects appear to involve GSK3β. Aβ impairment of mitochondrial transport involved HDAC6-mediated microtubule deacetylation. Mitochondrial fragmentation may involve the mitochondrial fission components of Drp1 and Fis1, whereas cell death is mediated by the apoptosis pathway. Dashed lines indicate potential alternative pathways
