The number of c-Fos-positive cells in the four brain regions of the sires from photomicrographs of coronal sections of c-Fos immunoreactivity at 30 min from the various separation conditions. The sires tested were in the retrieval-negative (derived from S4-1) and -positive families (derived from S4-2). The sires of both retriever and non-retriever types were isolated in old cages alone (S6-1, A), in new cages alone (S6-2, B) or together with his mate in new cages (S6-3, C).
